We toured the Palais des Papes today. The papacy was here in Avignon for aprroximately 70 years in the 14th century. We then saw the famous bridge of Avignon and sang the children's song 'Sur le pont  d'Avignon, l'on y danse, l'on y danse ...' I shopped and bought a dress in town. We are heading for Pont du Gard - the roman aqueduct that I have been so looking forward to seeing. Our guide made it abundantly clear that despite its name, Pont du Gard is not a bridge. We were lucky enough to have access to the top level of the aqueduct. We walked through where the water used to flow - 400 liters per minute. It was an incredible feat of engineering and its le that was 30 miles. Our walk ended with drinks and snacks and an incredible view of the well preserved arches. Another huge highlight of this trip. At night we stayed on the upper deck of the ship as we sailed through the night. We went under several low bridges and a few locks. We go through 12 locks each way on this trip. This will have to be our last late night as we all must disembark early Saturday morning
