July 17

We toured the Camargue region today - out southernmost point and the delta of the Rhone river rich in salt - fleur du sel and know for its bullfighting and horses. Bullfighting here is different than Spanish bullfighting. The bull is the star of the show and is not killed at the end of the fight - rather he gets to live to old age if they have a long career. Those that are not stars are used for meat. We visited a working ranch, saw the young men chase the bulls, saw the horses, and we were served a great lunch while being serenaded by a trio of guitar playing singers. When we returned from the ranch, we retuned to Arles and did some shopping. Then it was all aboard for Avignon. This lively town is littered with theaters and street performers. There is an arts festival here for almost the entire month of July. I did find the theater where Eddie was playing and got a poster. It was a fun night.
